Cold and flu season hit hard and people all around us spreading germs and bacteria with their nagging, persistent cough. This is often the worst symptom because a stubborn cough can hang on for weeks! Of course there's little time to lay in bed with a hanky and our favorite Meg Ryan movie, what's a cougher to do?
I have just the remedies you need, doTERRA essential oils to the rescue yet again!
Most of us know that a warm liquid like tea, sweetened with honey and infused with lemon is a time proven remedy right?
Remedy #1
How about a new twist using essential oils?
1. Pour hot water into a mug and add 4 to 5 drops of On Guard Protective Blend by doTERRA.
2. Add 2 drops of Lemon Essential Oil for it's wonderful flavor and additional anti-bacterial properties.
3. Add a teaspoon of honey to soothe the tickle in your throat.
On Guard tea with honey and lemon is a gentle, soothing remedy but sometimes, you gotta bring out the big guns to get the job done! Persistent coughs call for extra vigilance and some potent essential oils.
Alternate 1 drop of Melaleuca and 1 drop of On Guard every hour! This remedy is useful when a cold and cough have taken hold and swift, strong action is needed to get rid of it. I would suggest manning up or, putting your big girl panties on and taking these EOs by mouth so they have a chance to touch your throat. It's quite alright to add a little carrier oil to dilute and allow better spread.
Remedy #3
Surprise, surprise! Lime essential oil acts as a cough suppressant, it's excellent to use at night when you need your sleep.
Add 2 drops to a glass of water before bedtime.
Remedy #4
2 drops Eucalyptus and 2 drops of a carrier oil for a nice even spread massaged onto the bottom of feet.
Add 2 drops Rosemary for a stubborn cough and mucous.
At night, add 2 drops of Lavender for a restful sleep.
