Deodorant is a common denominator for just about ALL of us.
So how is it that a good portion of our planet's population have been rubbing, rolling or spraying potentially harmful chemicals under our arms for most of our lives unaware of the cumulative side effects? Some researchers believe we increase the risk of cancer by this simple act of daily hygiene. With 20 to 30 axillary lymph nodes under each arm and breast cancer on the rise, it's time to consider a better way in my opinion.
What are lymph nodes?

Lymph nodes are small clumps of immune cells that act as filters for the lymphatic system. The lymphatic system runs through the body (like the circulatory blood system) carrying fluids and cells.
The lymph nodes in the armpit (the axillary lymph nodes) are the first place breast cancer is likely to spread. The photo shows the location of Axillary Lymph Nodes.
Yes I know, I've touched on the the subject of DIY deodorants before but my suspicions are compelling enough to bear repeating! Again, this is my opinion but, whether you choose to use essential oils or other natural products, I feel strongly that it's time to make this change.
My choice of a healing natural deodorant alternative is made with a few PURE essential oils, a good alcohol free Witch Hazel in a simple 1 ounce glass spray bottle.
10 drops Frankincense
10 drops Lavender
10 drops Lemon
Top the bottle off with Witch Hazel, a natural astrigent and soothing to the skin, blend gently. The blend actually smells amazing, controls odor but, is only slightly effective when it come to sweat, a natural process.
Why I choose Frankincense, Lavender, Lemon
Can a deodorant heal while controlling odor? Yes!
FRANKINCENSE
_______________________________
Frankincense contains sesquiterpenes, enabling it to go beyond the blood-brain barrier. It defends the body against infection and strengthens the immunity system. A strong natural anti-inflammatory with anti-cancer and anti-tumor properties. Frankincense is an effective cell rejuvenator as well.
Gum resins obtained from trees of the Burseraceae family (Boswellia sp.) are important ingredients in incense and perfumes. Extracts prepared from Boswellia sp. gum resins have been shown to possess anti-inflammatory and anti-neoplastic effects. Essential oil prepared by distillation of the gum resin traditionally used for aromatic therapy has also been shown to have tumor cell-specific anti-proliferative and pro-apoptotic activities. The objective of this study was to optimize conditions for preparing Boswellea sacra essential oil with the highest biological activity in inducing tumor cell-specific cytotoxicity and suppressing aggressive tumor phenotypes in human breast cancer cells.

LAVENDER

Currently, there are relatively few types of antifungal drugs to treat infections and those that are available often have side effects. Professor Lígia Salgueiro and Professor Eugénia Pinto who led this study explained why novel fungicides are urgently needed. "In the last few years there has been an increase in the incidence of fungal diseases, particularly among immunocompromised patients," they said. "Unfortunately there is also increasing resistance to antifungal drugs. Research by our group and others has shown that essential oils may be cheap, efficient alternatives that have minimal side effects."
Essential oils distilled from the Lavandula genus of lavender plants are already used widely, particularly in the food, perfume and cosmetic industries. Studies of the biological activities of these oils suggest Lavandula oils have sedative and antispasmodic properties as well being potent antimicrobials and antioxidants.

LEMON

"Current awareness of positive testimonies from people using protocols for ingesting EO lead me to search for and consider several new aromatic science references demonstrating proof of principle to document the safe and effective use of ingesting EO in humans in placebo controlled, randomized, double blind clinical trials. There are currently three different studies for diseases in which ingested EO have been proven to be safe and have positive benefits when taken internally; d-limonene from citrus for breast cancer, cineole from eucalyptus for asthma and lavender for anxiety."

We conclude that limonene distributed extensively to human breast tissue and reduced breast tumor cyclin D1 expression that may lead to cell-cycle arrest and reduced cell proliferation. Furthermore, placebo-controlled clinical trials and translational research are warranted to establish limonene's role for breast cancer prevention or treatment.

A few choice comments in favor of chemicals in our deodorants.
This from WebMd: Anti-perspirants, Should You Sweat It?
http://www.webmd.com/skin-problems-and-treatments/features/antiperspirant-facts-safety?page=2
"These products can be used with high confidence of their safety. They've been used for many years, and there's no evidence that suggests a problem," says John Bailey, PhD, chief scientist with the Personal Care Products Council, the trade association that represents the cosmetic and personal care products industry.
If you'd prefer to go natural, you could try an aluminum-free antiperspirant alternative, or even rub items from your kitchen -- such as tea or lemon -- under your arms. Just be warned: The resulting aromas and wet spots could cause your friends to flee. "A lot of people may want to try things, but if they want to be dry, then they need to use an antiperspirant," Pariser says.
And this...
Concerns about antiperspirants and kidney disease were first raised many years ago, when dialysis patients were given a drug called aluminum hydroxide to help control high phosphorus levels in their blood. Because their kidneys weren't functioning properly, their bodies couldn't remove the aluminum fast enough, and it began accumulating. Scientists noticed that dialysis patients who had these high aluminum levels were more likely to develop dementia.
As a result, the FDA requires antiperspirant labels to carry a warning that reads, "Ask a doctor before use if you have kidney disease." Yet this warning is only meant for people whose kidneys are functioning at 30% or less.
In reality, it's almost impossible to absorb enough aluminum through the skin to harm the kidneys. "Unless you eat your stick or spray it into your mouth, your body can't absorb that much aluminum," says nephrologist Leslie Spry, MD, FACP, spokesperson for the National Kidney Foundation.
Should we be absorbing ANY aluminum at all? No. Aluminum is not okay!
