Daybook 3

Outside my window- Another gray, cold, nasty day.

I am thinking about- 'Larkrise to Candleford'. My older sister and I have watched a few episodes, and so far we are enjoying it very much.

From the kitchen- Dishes to wash, most likely. I haven't looked, I'm putting it off for as long as possible. :)

I am creating- A blog post?

I am reading- Yesterday I finished reading 'House of Many Ways' by Diana Wynne Jones. It wasn't as good as the two books that come before it, but it was still enjoyable.

I am hearing- My littlest sister is playing 'Joy to the World' on my old harp.

I am hoping- Hmm, what am I hoping? Ok, I'm hoping I can remember the dream I had last night. It was a really good dream...but I don't remember what it was about now!

I am planning- To sort through my clothes today. My dresser drawers are getting really jumbled.

I am wearing- Blue jeans, a pink shirt with geometric-ish shapes on it, and my new silver hoop earrings.

My hair is- In a twist-wrapped-ponytail. With a headband for added prettiness. :)

Around the house- My brother is pulling the taps off the maple trees today. Yay! No more hauling sap!

I am wishing- That the weather would hurry up and get warm! I'm really for summer.

Twist-Wrapped Ponytail

I'm not a big fan of plain-old ponytails, so I invented this version.  Nearly every time I wear this somewhere, someone comments on it and asks how I did it.
Put your hair in a ponytail.

Take a small section of hair from the top of the ponytail, and divide it in half.

Twist both halves in the same direction,
then twist them together.
Secure the twist at the bottom with a hair tie.

Coil the twist around the base of your ponytail, hiding hairtie
and tail of hair beneath the coil, and pin in place.

 Enhance as desired. :)

Daybook 2

Outside my window- It's snowing...again. :/ Huge wet flakes.

I am thinking about- How I want to fix my littlest sister's hair for the wedding. She's the flower girl.

From the kitchen- Chicken, thawing for supper.

I am creating- Almost finished with my bridesmaids dress, just some hand sewing left. Super happy with it. :)

I am reading- Haven't really done any reading since last week...

I am hearing- Barlow Girl, via Grooveshark .

I am hoping- That I can decide on a necklace for the wedding, soon. My sister-in-law-to-be is buying all of her bridesmaids the necklace of our choice. :D

I am planning- To get my graduation open house invitations sent out this week.

I am wearing- A gray wool skirt, blue top with white flowers on it, hoop earrings and my paua shell ring.

My hair is- Tried something new today. Took the front half of my hair and divided it into about seven sections and twisted them all back separately. Pulled them all together in a ponytail, then into a bun.

Around the house- Laundry to fold, and mud. My brothers track in a lot as they come inside.

I am wishing- That season 6 of Doctor Who was out. Can. Not. Wait. :D

edit: It stopped snowing, and the sun is out now! Change in supper plans- hot dog roast with my brother and his wife and kids. :)

Daybook 1

I've seen several blogs that do a daybook, and I've always thought it looked like fun. So here's my version. :)

Outside my window- Patches of blue in the sky, but mostly cloudy, and a bit too chilly to have the window open. Most of the snow is gone, though. I can only see one pile from here.

I am thinking about- Starting my school for the day.

From the kitchen- Breakfast dishes that need washing. I think I'll conserve soap and hot water, and wait till after lunch. ;)

I am creating- I need to sew my bridesmaid dress for my brother's wedding.

I am reading- "Debbie of the Green Gate" It's a re-read, but I read it long enough ago that I don't really remember what happens...

I am hearing- This song. So pretty.

I am hoping- To get the loads of laundry I have to do today done as soon as possible. Usually I do laundry on Tuesday, but I was gone all morning/afternoon yesterday.

I am planning- To hem the sun dress I made on Monday.

I am wearing- A black skirt and my new aqua/black plaid top. I love it. :)

My hair is- VERY uncooperative today- I wanted to put it up, but it wouldn't go up... It's in a braid.

Around the house- Pretty quiet. My younger siblings are doing school.

I am wishing- That my bridesmaid dress was already done, and exactly how I want it.

Fake Bangs

After watching several Youtube tutorials on how to do fake bangs, I stayed up late modifying it for waist-length hair. :)

Take the amount of hair you want for your bangs from the crown of your head.

Clip out of the way in the most flattering way possible. :)

I put the rest of my hair in one braid, but you can fix it any way you want-or just leave it loose!

Comb the crown section smoothly back, and braid loosely.
Leave the tail long enough for the bangs, and a little extra so you won't have any (extra) funny lumps on top of your head. :)

Lay braid flat against your head, with the tail of hair hanging down as long as you want the bangs.

Pin braid securely in place against the back of your head.

Use bobby pins to pin the bangs in place. If you pin them in an X they will stay in better.

Mess with them to get them to look the way you want.
Wear a cute hat or head scarf!

note: Taking a larger section of hair from the crown of your head will give you thicker bangs. These turned out a little thinner than I was aiming for. :)

I love...

...everything about this picture. The colors, the composition, the way her dress and hair are floating in the water...

                                          ...sigh...

The Knot

This is definitely one of my favorite hairstyles. So quick and easy, and still classy.

Gather your hair into a high ponytail, and twist tightly.

Wrap twist around your hand, grab the end and pull it through.

Pull knot snug against your head. Pin in place.

Finished!

Haystack Style

I'm an eighteen year-old christian homeschooler, living among the jack-pine savages of Northern Minnesota. When I was little, I had messy hair. Like, really messy. My Dad's pet name for me was 'Haystack'. So, my hair, my clothes, likes, dislikes, convictions and opinions, this is the story of Me.
This is Haystack Style.
