: a week of hairstyles :

Here's a look at the sorts of hairstyles that I'm doing nowadays...

Sunday

I rag curled my hair Saturday night, and slept on it, and so when I took it out it was super poofy.

Like, Shirley Temple with a bad hair day poofy. Seriously.

I decided to put it up, and pretend it was a Marvelous Updo, instead of a ponytail with a couple of bobby pins stuck in it. 

Monday

The next day, I had Leftover Curls. 

So I wore pigtails, and felt teenybopper-ish. 

Tuesday

French Over. 

And so, the next day, only the front section of my hair was wavy...

Wednesday

...Which meant that french braids were needed to hide that.

Yay! My hair is finally long enough again for them!

Thursday

I washed my hair, and then put it up while damp into a french twist/bun thing.

Friday

Accent braid + side pony that I didn't pull through quite all the way. 

Saturday

  I didn't really have a clear idea of what I wanted to do with my hair, so I just started braiding random braids, and ended up with this.

Knotted Updo

It's a hairstyle tutorial! Yay. 

This is a hairdo I was planning to make a tutorial for before I cut my hair in October, but that didn't happen. Obviously.

Conveniently however, I have long-haired sisters who I can force are willing to model. ;P

I'm calling this one The Knotted Updo. 

Because it's an updo... made out of knots. :D 

*cough*

1. Start out with your hair in a ponytail.

2. Take a small/medium section from the top of the ponytail.

3. Wrap around your fingers to make a loop...

4. ...and pull the tail through the loop.

5. Voila! A knot.

6. Pin the knot securely in place over the hairband.

7. Repeat with 2-3 more sections over the top of the ponytail.

8. Next you're going to take a section from the bottom, and add it to one of the loose top sections. 

Continue tying knots, pinning, and adding sections together, until you're left with just one section.

9. Tie a couple knots in it...

10. ...and hide the ends under the bun- and pin in place.

Finished! 

Depending on the size of sections you take, and how tight or loose you make the knots, this can be a really compact and  intricate looking bun, or, a really loose, almost-looks-like-curls sort of updo. 

Usually, I'd do it kinda loose, so I'd have this massive updo... It was awesome.

And now I kinda miss my long hair. Waa.

Oh well. It'll grow back. :D

Rope Bun

This is usually my go-to hairstyle when nothing else will work.
It's also one of my very favorite hairdos. Ever.

Twisted Updo Tutorial

I've been meaning to post this tutorial for quite awhile now, but then I thought- "I'll save it for my 100th post!". And so I have.
Happy 100th Post To Me Etc, Etc.

I love this hair-do. It varies in looks most every time, but usually it will go up nicely, when nothing else wants to work.
That's my favorite sort. :D

Twisted Bun with Scarf Tutorial

 At long last I have manged to outsmart my nasty video editor, and was able to make it work. :D

So, without further ado, here is the tutorial!

French Over

Once you've mastered this hair-do, it's super easy to do & it looks awesome! 
(disclaimer: I can't do it very well on myself- it's easier to do on someone else.)

You'll need to know how to french braid for this hairstyle, or dutch braid, if you prefer.

What you'll need. ^

 Find yourself a victim -er- willing participant, I mean. ;)

Part hair over head from ear to ear. Secure the back section out of the way.

I have Mollie put her head in my lap- 'tis easier to braid that way.

French braid starting just above the ear, and continuing over the top of the head.

 About half-way through, I have her sit up, and then I continue braiding down the side of her head.

Secure the braid, and remove the hairband from the back section, comb.

Finished!

Rolled Braided Bun Tutorial

 It's been a long time since I've posted a hairstyle tutorial, but better late than never, right? ;)
I decided to try a video tutorial- it was easier than getting someone to take the pictures for me, or trying to take them myself. :D 
(And I apologize in advance for the poor lighting- and cluttered background! :D)

Curly Updo

 When you have waist-length hair, curling any amount takes a really long time. Was it worth it? Definitely.

Curl the lower half of your hair.

(I used rag curlers.)

Put the uncurled top half of your hair into a bun. Make sure the front is smooth, and looks how you want it to for the finished style.
(I did fix that little piece of  hair that's sticking out, but it's driving me nuts every time I look at the picture.)

Pull all the curls up, covering the bun, and pin in place . I used a french twist comb in the above photo, but have since decided hairpins work better. :)

Shorten the curls to the length you want them, and pin in place.

You can leave the ends of the curls loose, or pin them down.
Accessorize. :)

Wedding Hairstyle Test

Last night I rag curled part of my hair in order to test my hairstyle for the wedding.

Now I just need a white hair flower... :)

Twist-Wrapped Ponytail

I'm not a big fan of plain-old ponytails, so I invented this version.  Nearly every time I wear this somewhere, someone comments on it and asks how I did it.

Put your hair in a ponytail.

 Take a small section of hair from the top of the ponytail, and divide it in half.

Twist both halves in the same direction,

then twist them together.

Secure the twist at the bottom with a hair tie.

         

Coil the twist around the base of your ponytail, hiding hairtie 

and tail of hair beneath the coil, and pin in place.

 Enhance as desired. :)
