Lullaby Sleep Blends For Kids & Adults

Sleep, everyone needs it & everyone wants more of it!

I dedicate this post to all sleep deprived Moms and the rest of you sleepless people looking for a few more zzzzzzz's :))

Let's start with the universal favorite, Lavender.

Most everyone recognizes that Lavender is calming and an active stress reducer but did you know Lavender can actually reduce levels of cortisol released into the body?  This gentle, fragrant essential oil is my go-to sleep aid and I use it in various ways...

Diffuse, apply directly to bed linens and/or massage on the bottoms of your feet.  Safe for children, adults and even rambunctious dogs and horses!

Lavender ~ Vetiver Blend

If you're looking for something with more sleep inducing octane, add Vetiver!  A favorite blend in our family is this...

1 part Lavender
1 part Vetiver

Combined in a roller bottle!

{ For the kiddos, make a small adjustment by adding 1 part fractionated coconut oil }

The Hibernation Blend says, "come hither" to sleep!

Equal parts of Frankincense, Bergamot, Roman Chamomile and Vetiver, a restful combination of essential oils!  Just looking at this combination relaxes me...

{ Remember to add 1 part fractionated coconut oil for kids under 6 }

You can find an assortment of glass roller bottles {HERE}.

Diffusing the Hibernation Blend is wonderful too!

zzzzzzz...

Is it NAPTIME yet?

Another W O N D E R F U L blend for relaxing small and large persons alike is the Peaceful Child Blend.  I highly recommend diffusing this in your home an hour or two before bedtime!

This is my own rendition of Peaceful Child and as you can see, the blend calls for an investment of essential oils!

Deborah Gardner, the creator of Peaceful Child Blend would be happy to provide you with her beautiful blend for a reasonable price :)

She also has a beautiful website with extensive information on just how many ways this blend can help kids and adults alike with ADHD, ADD and a multitude of other issues...

Many, many families including my own depend on this blend for peace and calm in the home and at school.

Lavender & Marjoram

I pretty much have the greatest people visit Camp Wander, both the blog and Facebook page.  I learn new things from these fabulous people everyday, this "Lullaby Blend" is one of them!  Diane H. and Jill S. offered this brilliant EO combo up.  Here's Jill's successful, secret blend!

Jill’s Sleepy Time Blend:
  • 16 drops of lavender
  • 16 drops of marjoram
  • 30 drops of fractioned coconut oil
  • Mix them into a 10ml roller bottle then apply to temples, chest, and behind ears before bedtime.  This is also a wonderful blend to diffuse in any bedroom at night.  Relax and enjoy a peaceful nights rest.

You can learn more about Jill's large family, fantastic Sleepy Time Blend, her secrets to keeping anxiety AND allergies under control all wrapped up with lots of her amazing photography {HERE}!

One more idea before I say goodbye...

Give the GIFT of Sleep!

Lavender & Vanilla Facial Scrub!

Oh to walk into this picture and bury my face in lavender blooms...

While I can't offer you Summer just yet, I can give you a beautiful recipe for a Lavender and Vanilla infused facial scrub, will that suffice??

Most of us know by now how easy and inexpensive it is to make your own body and facial scrubs, literally costs pennies and takes five minutes to make!  I'm always on the lookout for a good facial scrub however and this is a keeper!  Hint:  To change things up, try Geranium EO in a scrub too, such a great essential oil for your skin!

Simple Scrub Recipe
{options are endless, get creative with it!}

1 cup white or brown sugar (oatmeal can be added to the sugar)
1/2 cup almond oil (olive oil works but almond smells best)
1/2 teaspoon vitamin e, argan or emu oil
1/2 teaspoon real vanilla extract
15 drops of Lavender essential oil

A mid winter treat that smells and feels amazing!

ENJOY!

Daybook 41

Outside my window- We got a bunch of snow over the weekend, and it's drifted as high as my window on the deck outside.

I am thinking about- As of today, I have a brand-new niece called Helen, and she's perfectly adorable! :)

From the kitchen- We had split pea soup for supper.

I am creating- I've been doing some embroidery the past few days.

I am reading- Hm... I haven't done any reading since last week, I guess...

I am hearing- Lilia's playing piano downstairs.

I am planning- Tomorrow my besties are coming over for a dress cutting out/fitting party- 'cause one of my besties is marrying one of my cousins, and Amanda's making the wedding dress.
And I get to be a bridesmaid. :D

I am wearing- A red hoodie, and a denim skirt.

My hair is- It's in two buns.

Around the house- We've had a busy past few days- fabric shopping on Saturday, wedding on Sunday, bridal shower for a friend on Monday, Bible Study on Tuesday (except we decided to dig a snow fort instead of our usual study), and today, we got to meet baby Helen!

Ugh.

Guys. It finally happened. I've been hoping for years that it never, ever would.

Remember that wedding Amanda and I were playing prelude for?
Yeah, that was today.

So...
We played the first song, and that went OK, but it wasn't great, since we still had a bit of stage jitters.

The next song- "All I Ask Of You", is our favorite to play together.
It was going good. I was just starting to relax and enjoy myself, when-

TWANG!!!

Broken harp string.

Microphones are wonderful things. It amplified the horribly-awful sound throughout the whole sanctuary.

After a pause of Panic, Shock and Horror, Amanda and I exchanged what-do-we-do-now looks, and then I did my best to play around my missing string.

...

The rest of the wedding was nice, though.

Oh, and I sort-of nearly caught the bouquet. It kinda hit me on the way down, and then lay on the floor for several seconds, so if I were more of an outgoing person, I could have scooped it up before the bride's sister finally picked it up. :D

CW Pooch Pourri! Get Rid of Pooch Puddle Odors with Purify!

Meet the newest addition to our Camp Wander family...Bart.

Bart is our bouncing 12 week old bundle of love!  Weighing in at 30 lbs, soon to be 200 (ish), our Newfoundland pup has us wrapped around his big black paw.

Bart came from a very loving family, as you can see :))

As most of you know, puppies come with their challenges...puddles and piles in the least desirable places!  Funny thing is, my sister Jillee blogged about Getting Rid of Pet Stains just days before we knew that we had a puppy in our future.

Don't you just love how life works?

Let's start with Jillee's great information for INDOOR pooch puddles and pet stains...

Jillee's arsenal includes baking soda and white vinegar....hard to beat that naturally deodorizing combo!  To read and view Jillee's tutorial {Click Here}

Pssst!  Feel free to add 2 to 3 drops of Purify Blend "indoors" too!

Bart is an OUTDOOR puppy and currently wreaking (get it, wreaking) havoc in our garage. We're working with him of course but those puddles become a problem with male dogs.  If the scent remains, chances are someone will come along and cover it up with their own.  Catch my drift?

I'm trying very hard to be delicate here :))

I know you've been wondering...

ENTER:  Essential Oils!

But first, a photo of Roxy...

Best dog known to mankind, keeper of our hearts and Bart's (most patient) adopted Grandmama.

She "owns" her gray don't you think?

She's very dignified.

Newfie Superstar

The OUTDOOR Pooch Pourri Line Up!
{refresh, renew and repel!}

This combination is working fabulously for us!

Because our Newfs are outdoor dogs, I'm more worried about the concrete and wood posts retaining odors (which they do!).

To remove odors from concrete and anywhere else, combine white vinegar with Purify Blend, a blend of essential oils designed to eliminate odors with Lemon, Lime, Pine, Citronella, Melaleuca and Cilantro.

CW "Outdoor" Pooch Pourri:

1 quart bottle of white vinegar
add 10 drops Purify Blend

{drip directly into bottle of white vinegar}

There's an added bonus to Pooch Pourri!  I pour small puddles wherever I don't want Bart to "you know".  The "aromatherapy" of it keeps Bart away, he's not a connoisseur of essential oils like me :))

Please note:  For stubborn spots where there may have been a more solid deposit, scoop away the offending stuff (rinse if needed) then pour enough CW Pooch Pourri to cover the spot, add a generous sprinkle of baking soda for a little extra grit, let sit for 5 minutes then sweep away with a broom.

Okay, being delicate is exhausting...

The End!

Candida Cleanse ~ Make Your Own GX Assist!

Because you never know when a yeast infection will strike...

I think most of you would agree that there's never a good time for a yeast infection.  How many of you have been plagued with a yeast infection while on vacation?  Or spent several miserable days trying to get things under control, even a doctor visit?

I found this DIY Candida Cleanse {HERE}, it's a protocol that Dr. Hill recommended before GX Assist was released in 2009.  What I like about this?  I always have Lemon, Melaleuca and Oregano in my Travel Kit enough to get the protocol started anyway.

This is a great recipe to remember if you or someone you're with has a "flare-up" and you're away from your "natural" medicine cabinet...

DIY ~ GX ASSIST

5 drops ~ Lemon Essential Oil
5 drops ~ Melaleuca Essential Oil
3 drops ~ Oregano Essential Oil

Take 2x daily in a 00 gel capsule for 10 to 14 days.  Rest two weeks and repeat protocol.

...because it never hurts to be prepared!

Carrier Oil ~ What Is It & How Do I Use It?

The What, Why and Where of it!

A carrier oil is the vegetable oil from the fatty part of a plant, namely the nut, seed or kernal and each carrier oil on it's own can offer a therapeutic benefit.

Carrier oils are used to dilute essential oils for topical application.

Carrier oils actually carry essential oils into the skin...okay now the word "carrier" makes much more sense, doesn't it?

The Difference Between Essential Oils & Carrier Oil

Essential oils are distilled or pressed from the roots, leaves, bark and rinds of plants and citrus fruit.  Essential oils have a strong aroma and for the most part evaporate.  Carrier oils are pressed from the fatty part of botanicals and they don't evaporate or influence with a strong aroma like essential oils do.

CW Carrier Oil Fav!

Fractionated Coconut Oil {FCO}

I use this carrier oil almost exclusively!  FCO simply means that the fat has been spun out of it, afterwards you're left with only the medium triglycerides.  Fractionated coconut oil is a highly stable, tasteless, odorless carrier oil, it penetrates the skin and takes your essential oils to a greater depth to help soothe and heal various health issues!

How to Use Carrier Oil

6 to 10 drops of FCO + essential oils:  enough coverage to massage into major joints.

1 teaspoon + essential oils:  good coverage for the bottoms of both feet

1 tablespoon + essential oils:  good coverage for application to limbs and back/spine.

For Children under 6 yr:  Cut dose of essential oils to half and dilute at a 1 to 1 ratio.  (1 drop EO to 1 drop carrier oil).

Fractionated Coconut Oil is available from Spark Naturals {HERE}

Happy Superbowl Sunday...
