Pure Plant Essence or Diluted Fake??

There's a simple way to find out if your essential oils are pure plant essence or, a diluted fake.  Perform this test at home with a drop of essential oil on a piece of paper!

On the left side of the photo above, a drop of doTERRA pure essential oil or  "pure plant essence", was dripped onto a piece of paper. Directly below it, a drop of 100% pure essential oil purchased from a health food store.  The oils were allowed an hour to dry.

On the right of the paper notice doTERRA's "pure plant essence" has dried to invisible.  This is because pure essential oils are not oils at all but pure plant essence, this grade of purity won't leave oily residue behind.  The essential oil from the health food store has indeed left an oily mark because it has been diluted with a carrier base even though the manufacturer claims it's 100% Pure.

I'm sorry to burst your bubble folks but this is the kind of world we live in today.  Unscrupulous suppliers and half truth labels sitting on reputable shelves all over the country.

Know your essential oils and, their labels!

Daybook 33

Outside my window- I was intending to write this much earlier, but, that didn't happen. Obviously. It's dark out.

I am thinking about- Christmas presents! I haven't bought any yet... :(

From the kitchen- Will you all be shocked if I tell you that I'm not making any pies for Thanksgiving? I've decided that I don't like eating pie enough for all the trouble you go to for making one.
Pie crust is evil. ;D

I am creating- ...er, nothing at the moment. Still haven't finished my afghan.

I am reading- "Peace Child" by Don Richardson.

I am hearing- The soundtrack for "Faith/The Great Doctor". Soooo pretty!! :)

I am planning- Well, if I plan to go to bed tonight, I'd better put my clean sheets back on the bed... which means that I have to fold the other laundry I have piled there at the moment.

I am wearing- Jeans, an aqua tank-top, and a black sweater.

My hair is- In a french twist. I was kinda excited when I realized that I could do that- up until now, my hair has always been too long! :D

Around the house- Amanda and I had an early Thanksgiving meal with our Bible Study group last night. It was delish.

The Overindulgence Post on Thanksgiving Eve!

I'm not going to lecture or even try to convince you to go easy on yourself tomorrow, there's just too much food to sample and too many relatives to please.  Well...maybe a mini lecture...

All Things in Moderation.
(depending upon your interpretation)

Alrighty then, let's get on with the remedies!

Essential oils won't cure our lack of poor judgement but we can certainly make our lives a heck of a lot more pleasant during the aftermath by aiding digestion, hydration etc.

First and foremost, drink lots of water ~ with 2 drops of doTERRA Lemon essential oil.

By doing this, you will hydrate your body after all that salty food and a couple glasses or 5 of wine and, also enjoy the gentle detox the Lemon EO provides.

A blend of essential oils are really nice in a cup of warm tea with a little honey...especially when calming an upset tummy.  Grap a pretty cup, add a 1 teaspoon of honey and 1 to 2 drops of the following "I can't believe I ate the whole thing" blend.

Honey Tea with Essential Oils

10  drops Wild Orange or Tangerine
2  drops Peppermint
2  drops Ginger
5  drops Lemon
3  drops Coriander

Blend all parts together and use 1 to 2 drops in honey tea
Might I suggest that you make this ahead of time to keep in the pantry for the rapidly approaching Holiday season?

...of course we love doTERRA DigestZen for all things stomach related too!

Morning After Essential Oil Bath Blend

5  drops Fennel
3  drops Lavender
5  drops Sandalwood
10  Lemon

Add 4 to 6 drops in a warm bath and soak for a good long time!

Again, this is a blend you can make up ahead of time to store in a small glass bottle in your medicine cabinet.

Merry Thanksgiving Everyone, be kind to yourself!

Holiday Travel Secrets!

It's the most wonderful time of the year!

Many of us are headed over the river and through the woods to get to Grandmother's house for Thanksgiving but there are 42 days left of Holiday travel yet ahead!

When enroute to holiday destinations, we can be presented with unpleasant hazards from less than desirable food, weather conditions, germs from sharing facilities with the general public, hours waiting in a local clinic, travel sickness and more.

Cheer up!  All of these "situations" can be helped along with a mobile Fragrant Pharmacy, that's small enough to fit in your purse, backpack or murse (man purse).

Travel Sickness!

While traveling can be one life's greatest adventures, if you or your compadres feel sick in a car or plane there's not much else you'd rather do than get OUT of that car or plane, agreed?  Hold on!  There's help in a small brown bottle...

  • A cup of warm Peppermint tea before air or car travel will settle the stomach.
  • Kids?  Keep a bottle of doTERRA's Peppermint Beadlets on your person at all times.  Each beadlet is a drop of Peppermint encased in a handy dissolvable shell that you can easily dispense to each sicko that threatens a mess!
  • Somebody in the group is running a fever, Peppermint with a bit of carrier oil can be massaged on chest and torso to drop fever 2 to 3 degrees.
  • Local BBQ joint was amazing but you're not feelin so amazin. Pop a couple Peppermint beadlets or, drip a drop or two into something and drink it down.  Heck, you can even rub the essential oil over your stomach.
  • Kids fighting, movies playing in the backround while concentrating on winter roads might will cause tension headaches.  Rub some Peppermint on the back of your neck and up around the back of your ears and down jawline...you'll smell sweeter and feel much better!
  • Stomach upsets of all sorts can be quieted with Peppermint or Ginger.  Choose which one works best for you!  With doTERRA EOs you can make a warm tea and drink.  Put a drop of either oil in a teaspoon of honey or even on a sugar cube!  This suggestion comes in handy for kids.  Prepare a few sugar cubes with a drop of your preferred EO and stuff in your purse or glove compartment just in case!

Leavin on a Jet Plane!

Flying presents it's own challenges:  dehydration, sickness, swollen  feet, ankles and hands, headaches from pressurized cabins and other "annoyances".  Hang on, try these tips for for a pleasant flight :)

Dehydration:  Try to avoid coffee, alcohol and soda.  Drink lots of water with 1 to 2 drops of Lemon to keep things moving in your system and brighten your mood!

Bloated or gaseous:  Ask for a cup of warm water, put a drop of Peppermint in it, sweeten with a little honey and sip.

Anxiety in flight:  Put a drop of Lavender on one tissue and a drop of Geranium on another and keep in small plastic bag.  When feeling anxious, take the tissues out and hold them to your nose, inhale deeply then lie back and close your eyes.  This works well for cranky people too!

Swollen Ankles:  One of my least favorite consequence of flying!  Before leaving home, drip 4 drops of Lavender on a moistened handkerchief or bandana and keep in a small plastic bag.  During flight, apply as compress and massage upwards from your ankles to calves.  Feels wonderful, it will relax everyone around you too :)

Fidgety Kids:  Have a bottle premixed with 1 part Roman Chamomile to 2 parts Lavender and some carrier oil.  In times of restlessness, massage some of the blend on their calves and feet and tuck them in to settle down.

Keep it Clean!

Traveling can be dirty business, we're sharing space with so many different people it's important to aware of this!

Sanitizing Spray:  I simply keep a 1oz glass spray bottle of On Guard and water in my purse.  I spray the plane seat, the toilet seat and any publicly shared space I'll be spending time in.

Bedbugs:  I have a handy dandy potion for this too.  Make and fill a 1 oz glass spray bottle for hotel stays.  CW Bed Bug Spray

Sanitizing Wipes:  CW Lavender and Lemon Swipes!

Be prepared for any eventuality while traveling!  The good news is:  if you only take one or two bottles of essential oils, this may be all you need to deal with life's little surprises...

...and that, is one of the MANY reasons I love essential oils!

Happy Thanksgiving my Friends, Safe Travels.

The Fragrant Pharmacy

"When you enter the fragrant pharmacy, a world of possibility is waiting for you"  Valerie Ann Worwood, author of The Complete Book of Essential Oils and Aromatherapy.

You will find nature in one of its most powerful forms, the essence and life-force of plants can be found in what we commonly refer to as, essential oils.  Essential oils are derived from flowers, trees, grasses, leaves, roots and fruits.  Their powerful properties are indispensable to medicine, food and cosmetic manufacturers. Western medicine continually seeks to create chemical copies of essential oils because of their extremely effective and complex medical system.

All single essential oils have many properties, a good example of this is Peppermint.

Peppermint is an anti-inflammatory and used to treat muscle aches and pains like arthritis and headaches.  It's actually prescribed by doctors to relieve digestive issues, a prescription medicine called Colperin.

Peppermint is also used by candy makers, put in aftershave, and has proven very effective for deterring mice, spiders and ants!

Once you begin to use essential oils in your daily routine you can't help but be impressed with their ability to operate on a cellular, physical, emotional, intellectual, spiritual and aesthetic level.  Yes, it's true, a bottle of pure EO can be spendy but, it's value is long lasting and versatile.

If anything is this world is holistic, it's essential oils.

These days we're bombarded by synthetics of all kinds, in every shape and form.  Synthetics = chemical based products. Eventually, we'll have to find alternatives as the consequences of a chemical based lifestyle manifest themselves.  Lucky for us, many alternatives are literally right under our nose.
