Got Wine Corks? Re-purpose into Firestarters!

If you're anything like me, you find wine corks somewhat artful, each is unique and really hard to throw away!

Guess what realsimple magazine came up with (LOVE that mag!).  Yep, it's on fire right before your baby blues.

Look at the backround of this photo, see that huge hurricane glass?  It's full to the brim because I'm a cork hoarder.  There, I said it out loud...errr typed it, I feel so free.

You too can feel cleansed by putting those pretty little things to work.

First of all, make sure you haven't accidentally saved any of those unattractive faux corks.  Plastic corks would be nasty, smoking things if burned.

Fill a mason jar with real cork corks and top off with rubbing alcohol.  Twist on the lid and soak!

Let soak at least 24 hrs before using and, make sure you add kindling along with the corks for a successful campfire!

P.S.  These little firestarters work great in backyard fire rings!  Also, display your pickled corks in a jar on your kitchen counter, it looks pretty!  Talk about a great gift!  You can gift a jar at a wine party, housewarming, neighbor Christmas gift...endless possibilities and presentations :)

As always, please be careful out there!  Campfires this summer can be particularly dangerous due to the extreme heat and dry conditions.  Many areas have a fire ban here in the west.

Happy Trails toooooo youuuuuu.....

Rebecca
