Overnite Oats in a Jar - Commuter Breakfast

Overnite Oats in a Jar

Admittedly, I may have an "anything oatmeal" obsession.  I love the stuff.  I saw this new (new for me) oatmeal idea on Pinterest yesterday and marched right into the kitchen to make it mine.  First things first you know...must put it to the test.

Then, I hopped online, searched OOIAJ and found many variations.  Seriously, I'm so 3G, so twenty nine seconds ago.  It seems everyone was in the know about this stuff but me...and maybe you?   Those "know it all" 4G folk have been eating this no-cook oatmeal option for years and bragging about it.

Pint jar, I ate all of it.

Whoa, I've eaten a lot of oatmeal today.  I had to play with the ratios, the sweetening, the hundreds of possible variations.  It was horrible :)  I expect to be regular for the next 2 years.

After a little work in the lab, this is the variation that worked for me...

Single serving:

1/2  cup rolled oats
1/2  cup Greek Gods Honey Greek Yogurt
2/3  cup milk, or coconut milk or almond milk etc.
1 teaspoon honey
1/4 nutmeg or cinnamon
teeny pinch of salt u
1/4  cup blueberries
1/4  cup raspberries

Fill a pint jar and refrigerate overnite.  That's it!

This is usually enjoyed cold and that's how I like it but, there's no reason that once you get to the office you couldn't warm it up if that's what you prefer.  The fruit variations are endless and don't forget to think about adding nuts.

I also love the fact that you're packing it in glass, not plastic.

Many OOIAJ fans with families triple or quadruple the recipe to fill multiple jars so everyone has a healthy breakfast whether you're a grab and go type of person or like taking the time to sit at the table for breakfast.

Personally, I think Camp Wander's Breakfast Granola would be an excellent addition to OOIAJ with some fruit of course.  But, the granola has oats as well so use sparingly or you too might be regular for the next 2 years.

Because we use alot of oats in our house, I need a good deal.  Amazon has a 4 pack of Bob's Red Mill Thick Rolled Oats for $14.48, just click on the picture to check it out.

And there you have it, a healthy alternative to that quick bowl of cereal or piece of toast that can hit the road or office with you.  And talk about the regularity...or maybe not.

Thanks to www.pepperlynn.comhttp://www.pepperlynn.com/2012/02/overnight-oats-two-ways/ for being part of the inspiration!

Have a brilliant day everybody...it's almost Friday :)

XOXO!
Rebecca
